You called Abram, and renamed him Abraham,
Then you called him Your “Friend”, and “The Father of Faith".
You blessed him to bring forth many nations because of his obedience, and his patience.
You wrestled with Jacob through prayer, until the very break of day.
He wanted to be blessed, and he wouldn’t let go unless,
So You changed his identity when you changed his name.
You even favored your servant Job, as I have been told,
when You pointed him out specifically.
I know… he made You proud by pressing through life
with his longsuffering, and integrity.
You wept, when You went to call Lazarus back from the grave;
after others gave up on him, You removed the bandages of his past,
you loosed the man, and gave him life again.
All those “great” men of the Bible days,
You did wonders for them, and even gave them meaningful names.
You kept in touch, stopped by to visit, and even dwelled in their homes.
You did so many things to show them that You loved them,
and it helped to keep them strong.
Lord, I don’t understand why, You even stayed by King David’s side,
after all that he had done wrong!
Am I not just as special as all those other men?
Who am I? Don’t You care about my pain?
Don’t you see me crying with my arms lifted up in praise
much like a child wanting to be raised?
Suddenly as I felt You wipe the tears away from my eyes
You showed me just where I belonged.
I felt Your arms so lovingly wrapped all around me
before I ever knew what was going on.
You picked me up, and I finally heard You speak
You knew my name was John, …but “Son”, is what You called me.
Lord, before I ever got to know You in this way,
today would have been just another day.
Of course you know, I never got to know my natural father,
so I wanted to become one someday.
I soon found out, I wasn’t cut out to be someone I have never known,
or be something I had never seen.
So that is why I thank you Lord, for taking time from your busy schedule
to come down and teach me.
Thank you for showing me through the examples in your word,
what a father figure should really be.
That’s why I want to give You honor, glory, and praise,
for being My Father, Brother, and my Friend
Every morning that I awake, I want to just take the time to say,
Lord I wish you a Happy Father's Day.
Love, Me
