Man-child
As I look into the mirror
I see the reflection of a man who looks just like me
But when I step away from this twin image
My reactions echo the hurting child inside
Although the reflection proves differently
He's been living inside of me all of these years
He barely speaks, and rarely comes out to play
You'd never know when he's even been around
Unless you could translate the tracks of his tears on his face
You know, it's not good to have a tree
That grows higher than the roots run deep
Nor for a man, to outgrow the boy inside
His spirit trying to fly higher,
But he’s still grounded emotionally
I desire to grow, to enjoy my life, to laugh, and to play
I’m tired of opening boxes of empty promises,
Always saying, Lord is this finally the day
I want to be bold, confident, and strong
Yet still very meek and mild
Lord I pray, it won't be long
‘Til you release this man-child
